Installing Dragon Age Legends

1.  The downloadable version of Dragon Age Legends runs using Adobe Air.  If you don’t already have Air installed, you will need to download it from the Adobe Air website and run the installer.

2.  Once you have Adobe Air installed, download Dragon Age Legends stand alone version: Download Dragon Age Legends Game (170MB)

3.  Double-click the file to install Dragon Age Legends.  It will install into your program folder under BioWare.

At this point, you can open Dragon Age Legends and start a New Game!

Saved Games

What are Save Slots?

Dragon Age Legends saves your progress in the game automatically as you play.  There are 3 Save Slots that can hold 3 different saved games.  These are used for New Games and any Saved Games that you want to be able to easily access.

Games that are loaded into the Save Slots are saved in your Documents folder under Dragon Age Legends.

How do I start a New Game?

Whenever you start a new game, you must choose a slot in which to save your progress.  If there is already a game loaded in that Save Slot, it will be overwritten by the new game.

How do I open a Saved Game?

To open a saved game, go to Load Game.  If the game you want is already in a Save Slot, click the name and it will open that game.

If you want to load a saved game file into a Save Slot, click the file folder icon to open your file browser, select your saved game file.  Dragon Age Legends saved games are saved with a .dal extension.  This will overwrite whatever was previously in that Save Slot.  Click the name for the Save Slot to open the saved game.

You can also open saved games that are not in Save Slots just by double-clicking the .dal saved game file.  Any progress you make in the game will be saved to that file.

Creating Your Hero

Which class should I choose?

Choosing a class comes down to personal preference. Mages excel at ranged combat and summoning spells that can destroy or cripple your enemies. Warriors favor close-range tactics and can wield powerful two-handed weapons or shields. Rogues fall somewhere in between, able to pick off enemies from afar with a bow or get personal with a melee attack.

Does it matter if I play as a male or a female?

No. Aside from your class, all other character attributes are purely cosmetic, freeing you to create the character that resonates most with you.

Can I modify my player’s appearance after starting my game?

Yes. Simply click the “View Your Character” icon in the main game navigation to bring up the Hero Attributes screen. From here you can change your hero’s name, alter the War Cry they shout when they score a critical hit in battle, change your castle’s name and background setting, and change the appearance of your character.

What does “re-spec” do?

On the Hero Attributes screen is the re-spec (re-specify) option. Here you can redistribute the skills and stat points you’ve earned over the course of the game (see Leveling My Character below for more information). When you re-spec, you return to Level 1 but keep all of your XP, allowing you to immediately level back up and allocate your skills and stat points in whatever new configuration you wish.

Your Castle

How do I build more rooms?

You can view your castle at any time by clicking on the “View Your Castle” icon in the main navigation menu. To build new rooms, click on the hammer icon in the castle navigation menu.

In build mode, you can also construct expansion rooms (which you must build before you can place specialized rooms) and purchase new specialized rooms with gold.

What does each room do?

Here is a brief summary of the specialized rooms available:

Worker Room - Each worker room provides you with one worker to craft items for you. Windows make workers happy and increase their productivity, so be sure to give your worker rooms plenty of sunlight.

Apothecary - Assign workers to an apothecary to produce potions that your characters can consume during battle.

Alchemy Lab - Assign workers to an alchemy lab to produce bombs you can toss at enemies during battle.

Infirmary - Assign a worker to an infirmary to produce items you can use to assist other characters in battle.

Storehouse - Build a storehouse underground to unlock the option to bring more consumables into battle.

Throne Room - Construct the throne room to unlock the specialized rooms denoted below. When you purchase the throne room, you can unlock one specialized room for free. Future unlocks require increasingly higher amounts of gold.

Tavern - Build a tavern next to your worker rooms to make your workers happy and increase their productivity. Requires the throne room to be unlocked.

Furnace - Build a furnace next to your workshops to increase their productivity. Requires the throne room to be unlocked.

Chantry - The chantry unlocks new skill trees for each class. Additionally, it unlocks additional stat points. Requires the throne room to be unlocked.

Library - The library unlocks new skill trees and allows you to gain more mana and skill points (repeatable 3 times each).  Requires the throne room to be unlocked.

Training Room - The library unlocks new skill trees and allows you to gain more stat points (repeatable 3 times each).  Requires the throne room to be unlocked.

Kennel - The Kennel gives you a mabari war hound you can bring into battle.

Fencing Room - This Practice room entices Isabela bring her dual blades to your cause.

Dragon Roost - Dragons need a lot of space. Giving one space in your castle may not be wise, but will let you bring one into battle.

Shale Room - Shale is at peace in this room. Build it to add the rock golem to your party.

Morrigan Room - This room allows Morrigan, a witch of the wilds, to stay with you.

What is crafting, and how do I get my workers to craft items?

Once you’ve built an alchemy lab, apothecary, or infirmary, you can assign your castle workers to complete tasks. To assign a worker, click on the bench icon in the desired room. From there, you can see the items available for crafting. Click on an item and select a desired quantity to begin crafting.

Note: Crafting times and quantities are affected by happiness (from worker room windows and taverns) and productivity (from furnaces).

How can I improve crafting times?

Crafting times are a product of worker happiness. You can increase the happiness of workers in two ways: by giving your worker rooms more "windows" (open space on either side of a room) or by building Taverns that adjoin your worker rooms.

How do I upgrade rooms to craft different types of items and increase their quantity?

All non-worker rooms in the castle can be upgraded to improve their stats. Upgrading an apothecary, for example, can provide you with new potions or, if you improve productivity by clicking on the gear icon, increased quantity. Upgrading the throne room, on the other hand, unlocks new rooms for building. To see what upgrades are available for a room, simply mouse over it, then mouse over the arrow icon. To upgrade, click that icon and select the upgrade you’d like.

Each non-worker room also contains a premium upgrade that can be purchased with gold. To see what premium upgrades are available for a room, mouse over it, then mouse over the right-most gold icon. To upgrade, click that icon.

Leveling Up

How do I earn new skills and abilities in Dragon Age Legends?

For every enemy you defeat in combat, you will earn a small amount of XP. Once your XP total (visible as the blue bar in the upper left of your screen) reaches a set number, your character will “level up.” At this point, the Level Up menu will appear.

What are stat points?

Stats determine how well your character will perform in battle, as well as their maximum health and energy. Whenever you level up, you’re allowed to permanently increase one of five stats -- attack, defense, stamina, agility, or luck -- by one point. More information on how each stat affects your character can be found on the Level Up screen in the game.

How do skills work?

When you level up, you also get to assign one skill point. You can use your skill points to either unlock a new skill in a particular skill tree, or you can upgrade an existing skill to increase its power. How you allot your skill points is up to you.

Note that you can only equip five active or five passive skills at a time. If you have more than 5 active or passive skills available, you can swap them out by clicking the “View Your Skills” icon in the main navigation menu and dragging your desired skills to one of the five passive/active slots.

Managing Your Inventory

How do I equip my character with new items?

As you progress through the game, you’ll earn new equipment after completing battles and quests (you can also purchase new items in the store; see the Store section below). To equip your character with a new item, click on the “View Your Inventory” icon in the main navigation menu to open the Inventory menu.

From here, you can mouse over any item to compare it to what you currently have equipped. If you want to replace an item, drag your item to the appropriate slot on the left.

Why can’t I carry any more items?

By default, you have 21 inventory slots available. You can increase that number by building and upgrading a Storehouse in your castle (see the Castle section for more information). Unique items like weapons each take up one slot, while you can hold up to 20 of one consumable items -- health potions, for example -- in each slot.

Once you’ve reached your inventory limit, the game will prompt you to sell some items.

How do I sell back items?

To sell an item, open the Inventory menu and drag the item you wish to sell to the trash can at the bottom of the screen. The item’s resell price will appear over the trash can after you click and hold on the item.

I have a particular potion in my inventory, but I don’t see it in battle.

You can bring five offensive and five defensive consumable items into battle at one time. To switch your available items, drag your desired item to one of the circular slots surrounding your character in the Inventory menu.

Combat

How do I switch weapons?

Each class can equip two sets of weapons (see the Managing Your Inventory section for more on outfitting your character). To switch between the two sets of weapons during combat, simply mouse over a character on their turn and click the icon above their head.

What do the “Weak vs.” icons that show up when I mouse over an enemy mean?

If an enemy is weak against a particular element and you have an elemental weapon/spell of the same element, your weapon/spell/bomb will inflict extra damage. Otherwise, the weapon/spell will function normally.

To tell if an enemy is weak against a particular element, mouse over them and look at the icons next to "Weak vs." To tell if your weapon/spell/bomb is imbued with an element, mouse over the weapon/item in the inventory.

Gold

How do I earn gold?

Dragon Age Legends uses one form of currency: gold. Gold is used to upgrade your castle and can be obtained by completing battles and quests and selling unwanted items and rooms. Gold can be used to purchase content -- powerful armor/weapons, perks that can aid you in battle and building your castle, and other added benefits. You receive a small amount of gold at the beginning of the game and discover more throughout your journey.

I’m constantly running low on gold. Help!

If you’re constantly running low on gold, selll unneeded items and rooms. Sometimes you don’t need the loot you receive at the end of a battle. If that’s the case, sell it by going to your Inventory menu and dragging it to the trash can. You’ll see the resell price for the item displayed over the trash can. You can also sell back unneeded rooms in your castle.

The Store

What is the store?

The Dragon Age Legends store contains a number of items to aid you in your quest, purchasable with gold. If you’re having trouble winning battles, you might want to check out the selection of wares available to you in the store.

To access the store, click on the store icon located in the main game navigation. Once in the store menu, you can click the tabs to look at particular types of items and sort the items by a number of criteria.

Why do some items say “Min Level __”?

Equipment and weapons are sorted by level; only the items available to your current level and below can be purchased. The items listed as “Min Level __” give you a sneak peek at what you’ll be able to purchase as you level up.

Raids

What are raids?

Raids are replayable, time-based battles that pit you against massive bosses for a chance to earn epic loot. The faster you beat a raid, the better your loot. Progress is measured by “camps,” and by completing multiple battles in a row, you can clear successively higher amounts of camps.

You can access your first raid at level 10.

Goals

What are goals?

Goals help guide you through the different aspects of Dragon Age Legends, notify you of your current quest progress, and more. Each time you complete a goal, you’ll earn a reward.

Do I have to complete goals?

Aside from the main quest goals (they’ll have a gold border), all goals are completely optional.

Issues

My game crashed at the end of the Waking Sea map.

We have fixed this issue in the latest version of the game.  Please download it again from here and reinstall.  You can continue playing your game from the last save.

My high-level character isn’t getting loot on some maps.

Loot drops were originally limited based on level, so higher level characters did not get loot drops when they played lower level maps.  This has been updated in the latest release of the game so that characters of all levels get loot drops.  Please download the game again from here and reinstall.  You can continue playing your game from the last save.

This goal can’t be completed and always shows on my screen.

Some goals were not completable due to changes made to Dragon Age Legends to take it from an online game to a downloadable.  We’ve fixed this in the latest version of the game.  Please download the game again from here and reinstall.  You can continue playing your game from the last save.

I can’t unlock the last two rooms from the Throne Room.

I can’t download my online character from Facebook.

If you don’t see a “Download Character” button on Dragon Age Legends on Facebook but you had an online character, this is usually caused by Facebook not sending your ID number to Dragon Age Legends. First sign into Facebook, then Click Here  to give Dragon Age Legends permission to access your Facebook information again. Go back to the DAL Facebook app and the “Download Character” button should be there.

Lukesh is missing, even though I had him in the online game.
